Off-Duty Deputy Killed In U.S. 301 Crash: FL Highway Patrol
An off-duty deputy drove his truck into the path of a tractor-trailer, causing a head-on collision on U.S. 301, FL Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — An off-duty Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputy died Thursday morning in a crash with a flatbed tractor-trailer truck on U.S. 301, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.
The 40-year-old deputy’s pick-up truck collided with the tractor-trailer, driven by a 32-year-old Orlando man, south of Franklin Road just before 8 a.m.

The off-duty deputy, for unknown reasons, drove into the southbound lane, driving into the path of the tractor-trailer, causing a nearly head-on collision, FHP said.
Both trucks rotated, coming to a stop along the west shoulder of the highway.

The deputy died at the scene, FHP said. The tractor-trailer’s driver was uninjured in the crash
All lanes of U.S. 301 remain closed because of damage to the road’s surface, the agency said.
Drivers are asked to find alternate routes.
