2 FL Cities Named Among Worst Drivers In U.S., Forbes Says
Forbes measured its data per 100,000 residents among the 50 most-populated cities in the U.S. See which Florida city made the top 10 list.
FLORIDA — Two Florida cities have some of the nation's worst drivers, with one of them being in the top 10, a Forbes Advisor report says.
The report, released Thursday, focused on metrics spanning 2017-2021. Key in Forbes' findings were the amount of fatal crashes, fatal crashes involving a drunk driver, fatal crashes involving a distracted driver, fatal crashes involving speeding and the number of people killed in crashes.
Forbes measured its data per 100,000 residents among the 50 most-populated cities in the U.S., it says. The highest score a city could receive was 100.

"Fatal car accidents are increasing across the country, with the number of deadly crashes climbing by nearly 10% from 2020 to 2022. In some cities, there is a higher percentage of dangerous drivers on the road, putting everyone at greater risk when they get behind the wheel," Forbes contributor Cassidy Horton wrote in the report.
Both Tampa and Jacksonville landed on the list of worst drivers, Nos. 10 and 14 respectively. Tampa scored an overall 77.13 while Jacksonville scored a 71.78.

Forbes reported Tampa had the eighth highest total of fatal crashes (14.47 per 100,000 residents) and the ninth highest number of people killed in crashes (15.42 per 100,000 residents).
Additionally, Tampa ranked 14th for the highest number of fatal crashes involving a distracted driver (0.75 per 100,000 residents).
Jacksonville was given a 15.32 for total number of fatal crashes and a 4.49 for number of fatal crashes involving a drunk driver.
Albuquerque, New Mexico, peaked at No. 1 and led the list of worst drivers. Thereafter came Memphis, Tennessee; Detroit, Michigan; Tucson, Arizona; Kansas City, Missouri; Dallas, Texas; Louisville, Kentucky; Phoenix, Arizona; and Fort Worth, Texas.
With a 7.5, Memphis was deemed the city with the highest amount of fatal crashes involving a drunk driver.
Albuquerque had the most number of fatal crashes involving a distracted driver with a 5.42.
Forbes reported San Francisco, Oakland and San Diego - all in California - ranked among the top 10 list of best drivers nationwide.
