Alabama’s ‘Southern Drawl’ Tour Coming To Tampa

Alabama and The Charlie Daniels Band are making a stop at the Amalie Arena.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa Bay area country music lovers with a passion for classic tunes may want to put a date down on their calendars. May 28 is the day Alabama plans to bring its “Southern Drawl Tour” to town with The Charlie Daniels Band in tow.

The 7 p.m. May 28 performance is set to take place at Tampa’s Amalie Arena. Tickets for the show go on sale Friday, March 17 at noon.

The members of Alabama have been making music together for more than 40 years. When they initially started out, they were “renegades in sneakers and T-shirts,” Teddy Gentry said in a statement announcing the Tampa show. “We had long hair and played loud and some of the country folks resisted us for a while.”

That resistance didn’t last long though.

Since the group formed in Fort Payne, Alabama, it has sold more than 73 million albums worldwide, catapulted into the spotlight by such hits as “Mountain Music,” “If You’re Gonna Play in Texas” and “Song of the South.”

Daniels, now 80, is also well known for his work supporting children and the military.
