Army Veteran Dan Altmayer Digs Into Service With Tampa Farm Revamp
Through The Mission Continues, Altmayer joins fellow vets to restore a community farm and reconnect with purpose.

Whether it’s serving as a military officer or stepping up as a first responder, it takes a rare combination of dedication, resilience and heart to take on these roles. And for many of these individuals, that same drive carries over into life beyond the badge.
Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to spotlight active-duty military members, veterans and first responders who continue to lead, inspire and give back in meaningful ways across their communities.
Army veteran Dan Altmayer knows service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off. That’s why he was one of the many veterans and volunteers who recently rolled up their sleeves at Tampa’s Sweetwater Organic Community Farm for a hands-on mission of restoration and renewal.

As reported by the Tampa Bay Times, Altmayer joined The Mission Continues — a national nonprofit that empowers veterans through community service — for “Operation Tampa Bay Blitz.” The project brought together veterans from all branches to revitalize the beloved urban farm by clearing paths, repairing infrastructure and expanding garden plots that will benefit local students and families.
For Altmayer, this wasn’t just another volunteer gig — it was a way to reconnect with his community and fellow veterans while making a tangible difference. He noted the therapeutic power of working side by side with others who’ve served, turning a day of labor into one of healing, purpose and camaraderie.

The Mission Continues has long emphasized that veterans are “assets, not liabilities” — a belief Altmayer embodies through his ongoing service.
