The Best Sandwich Shop In America Is Right Here In FL, New Ranking Says

Yelp recently compiled its list of the Top 100 Sandwich Shops in America. See which FL eateries made the cut.

If you didn’t already know, August is National Sandwich Month. If you want to observe it by chowing down on some of the best handhelds in America, the best sandwich shop in America is right here in Florida, according to a new ranking.

In all, eight eateries in Florida made Yelp’s review-based list of the Top 100 Sandwich Shops. Here’s where they ranked nationally:

#1. Franky’s Deli Warehouse, Hialeah

For more than 25 years, Franky and Nanette Diaz have been greeting their regulars while preparing made-to-order best-sellers like their Famous Italian, packed with ham, capicola, salami and provolone, Yelp writes. “It’s sweet, salty, and zesty,” Nanette says. “Ninety-nine percent of customers order it hot, and the grill just meshes all the meats together.”

Other fan favorites include the Philly cheesesteak sandwich — with thinly sliced ribeye, onions and sweet peppers cooked together in a special secret sauce, then topped with smoked provolone — and the highly reviewed tuna sandwich.

“The most friendly deli in all of Hialeah, they have been around for 26 years,” one reviewer raves. “Franky and his wife are the sweetest people I have met. The food is phenomenal and healthy. The world deserves more deli like this.”

#6. Chicago Paulies, Tampa

Is it possible to replicate Chicago’s iconic Italian beef sandwich in another state? This gas-station-adjacent walk-up window proves it can be done, Yelp writes.

Juicy and tender shaved Italian beef is nestled in a French roll and topped with either spicy giardiniera or grilled peppers and onions. To “complete the flavor equation,” reviewers recommend pouring the au jus on top just before devouring.

“For authentic Chicago dogs, Polish sausage, Italian beef and more, this is the place to come to,” one reviewer said. “My suggestion is to try everything on the menu, it’s well worth it.”

#11. Piknik by Chef Christophe, Palm Beach Gardens

Established in 2021, Piknik was born out of a desire to bring customers not only good food, but a good feeling, according to the business. It is food made by foodies for foodies, with an emphasis on quality and taste.

Piknik’s French-inspired menu features a variety of cold and hot sandwiches, quiche, soups, salads and pastries.

“Simple. Rustic. Delicious,” one reviewer raved. “Chef Christophe is crafting amazing food with authentic style and ingredients. You won’t find mayo, ketchup or hot sauce here! But what you will find is warmth and generosity, both in spirit and food!”

#16. SeaSide Subs, Deerfield Beach

SeaSide Subs is a beloved local sub shop located in the Cove Shopping Center in Deerfield Beach. The business also boasts a perfect 5-star rating on Google.

SeaSide’s must-try specialities, according to the business, are the hand-breaded chicken cutlet subs, the house-made French dips and the overstuffed cold specialty subs, including the Italian, turkey, house-made tuna and roast beef.

“This is not just a sandwich shop. These are culinary masterpieces,” one reviewer gushed. “Each sandwich is handled with such care. Fresh delicious ingredients.”

#26. WhatSub, Deerfield Beach

WhatSub Sub Shop in Deerfield Beach serves up fresh, made-to-order subs packed with flavor, the business writes. Located at 1330 S. Federal Hwy., WhatSub offers a variety of classic and specialty sandwiches using quality meats, cheeses and toppings. WhatSub also has locations in Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale.

“Absolutely obsessed with this place! Authentic Italian sandwiches made with ingredients imported straight from Italy — everything is fresh, flavorful, and next level,” one reviewer raved. “A hidden gem in Deerfield Beach that’s a must-visit for any food lover.”

#29. Box of Cubans, Riverview

Starting as a local sensation within a BP gas station, Box of Cubans quickly gained popularity and expanded to its own storefront in Riverview in 2022. The eatery was featured on Fox News and recognized as one of Yelp’s “Top Places to Eat” in Tampa Bay. Box of Cubans opened its Tampa store last year.

Box of Cubans describes the restaurant as a cozy, casual Cuban restaurant specializing in empanadas, rice bowls, specialty coffee and gourmet sandwiches. Some of the must-try sandwiches at Box of Cubans includes the pan con bistec, mojito pork, chopped cheeseburger and the ham croquette.

“If you want to feel like family this is it. The food and service are unreal,” one reviewer said. “They make sure everything is perfect and treat you very well .
Cuban made with all the best ingredients.”

#41. Louie K Subs / Club Sandwich, Sunrise

Started in New Jersey in 1984 as an Italian deli, Louie K when on to develop the unique club sandwich concept due to the fact he is a club DJ and loves the food industry, the business wrote on Google. He combined both interests to present a one-of-a-kind sub shop offering a nightclub atmosphere while serving up endless styles of overstuffed subs and wraps with only the freshest of ingredients.

“I've been going to Louie's for 18 years. He makes awesome sandwiches and plays awesome music,” one customer wrote. “I love the cleanliness, our fun chats and his attention to detail. Louie has perfected his craft and he is my #1 go to guy for deli sandwiches.”

#47. Gulf Coast Sourdough & Wild Yeast Breads, Tampa

Gulf Coast Sourdough is an artisan bakery making “the most flavorful sandwich bread in America,” the business claims on Yelp. Christina Cann and Brett Wiewiora combine old-fashioned techniques with modern tastes and sensibilities to produce loaves with flavor, texture and character. From traditional tangy sourdough to cutting-edge flavor combinations like turmeric and black pepper to classic sweets like cinnamon swirl, the bread recipes pair well with dishes across the spectrum.

The different breads are used to craft a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, including pesto turkey or breaded chicken, grilled three-cheese and the meatball.

“One of the top tier hidden gems of Tampa and Seminole Heights,” one reviewer raved. “Amazing sourdough breads with all sorts of creative flavors and unbelievably good sandwiches made right there. I can’t get enough of it.”

In its inaugural Top 100 Sandwich Shops list, Yelp said affordable sandwiches are having a moment and are increasingly going gourmet.

Yelp reviewers “love all the new house-made aiolis, chutneys, pâtés and sauces these chefs are adding to their creations,” the site says. “Diners also give high praise to unique, delicious toppings like pickled vegetables and olive tapenade, as well as artisanal breads like fresh ciabatta, garlic bread or pretzel buns.”
