TAMPA, FL — On the heels of Breeze Airways announcing three new nonstop destinations from Tampa this summer, the airline ZooTampa at Lowry Park reported that it has signed an agreement with ZooTampa to become the presenting partner of the zoo’s Macaw Flyover Wildlife Connection.

Starting May 17, the low-cost airline will begin service from TPA to Portland, Maine. On May 18, the airline will go to Hartford, Connecticut, and service to Providence, Rhode Island will begin July 14.

  • Portland will operate Wednesday and Saturday.
  • Hartford will operate Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
  • Providence will operate Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

“Tampa International Airport is delighted to see Breeze Airways expanding its offerings with nonstop options to three popular New England destinations,” TPA CEO Joe Lopano said. “With 11 routes now in service from TPA to cities across America, Breeze continues to be a valued airline partner dedicated to excellent service for our travelers.”

“Here we grow again,” Breeze Airways President Tom Doxey said. “We always look for routes that people are traveling today but can’t get there nonstop. Now Tampa Bay residents can get to Portland, Providence and Hartford twice as fast for about half the price.”

Breeze will be boosting competition for popular routes, becoming the second airline offering nonstops in Providence behind Southwest and the third carrier in the Hartford market after Southwest and JetBlue.

The Portland route, which is a new destination for Breeze, marks a return of nonstop service between TPA and Maine’s largest city for the first time since April 2022.

With its growing presence in Tampa, Breeze has also become the presenting sponsor for ZooTampa's popular Macaw Flyover Wildlife Connection.

The wildlife experience takes place twice a day and helps educate guests on the protection and conservation of endangered macaws and their counterparts in the wild.

The sponsorship is a natural fit for an airline that bills itself as the “home of seriously nice flights and fares."

“We are excited to partner with Breeze Airways and Tampa International Airport to continue to elevate our destination, and provide both residents and tourists with an immersive experience that connects them with our natural world and each other,” said ZooTampa President and CEO Joe Couceiro.

“We always strive to become the hometown carriers in the cities we serve through local partnerships,” said Doxey. “As we develop more community relationships in Tampa Bay, there’s no better partner than ZooTampa and we are looking forward to sponsoring the Macaw Flyover Wildlife Connection with our shared love of flight.”

Breeze Airways began service in May 2021. One year later, it was ranked No. 2 best domestic airline of 2021 by Travel + Leisure World's Best Awards, which also goes hand in hand with ZooTampa, which was just named one of the top 10 zoos in America in the 2023 USA Today's 10Best Reader's Choice Travel Awards.

Breeze now offers a mix of 143 year-round and seasonal nonstop routes between 35 cities in 21 states. Founded by aviation entrepreneur and JetBlue founder David Neeleman, Breeze operates a fleet of Embraer 190/195 and Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with a focus on providing efficient and affordable flights between secondary airports, bypassing hubs for shorter travel times.
