1. Tampa's only Jewish bakery, Cass Street Deli, will be expanding across the bridge to St. Petersburg. It will open sometime after November 2021 and offer late-night operating hours and a new happy hour for diners to enjoy. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
2. The Tampa Baseball Museum in Ybor City will have its grand opening on Saturday, September 25th at 10 a.m. It will be hosted by Major League Baseball alumni and Tampa native Lou Piniella. The museum will be open starting September 30th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with expanded days planned for later in the fall. (Tampa Patch)
3. The new Florida Surgeon General appointed by Governor DeSantis, Dr. Joseph A. Ladapo, has passed a new rule that says students exposed to COVID can still go to school if asymptomatic and no COVID-19 test is needed for exposure to the virus. The rule has taken immediate effect and happens as parents are in litigation with the state over masks in schools. (WFLA)
4. A Florida lawmaker, Republican Webster Barnaby, from Volusia County has filed a Texas-style abortion bill. If it becomes law, those who help people seeking an abortion could be personally liable for damages of up to $10,000 and sued by private citizens. The bill defines pregnancy as beginning at fertilization. (WTSP)
5. Tampa’s Dave Bautista is offering a $5,000 reward for information on an animal abuser sough by the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. Bautista is well-known for his role in Marvel movies and as a WWE superstar. Earlier this year he offered $20,000 to find the person who defaced a manatee. (Q105)
