Dinosaurs Return To Lowry Park Zoo

Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo is preparing for an invasion of the dinosaur kind with the impending return of Dinos Alive!

TAMPA, FL — Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is preparing for an invasion of sorts with the impending opening of “Dinos Alive! An Interactive Jurassic Adventure” later this month. The nod to the past – the very distant past – is set to open Feb. 25.

The limited time, outdoor exhibit will feature life-size replicas that are meant to give visitors a chance to “get up-close and personal with varying species of dinosaurs that move, roar and interact with them,” according to zoo officials. “The experience will give insight on how dinosaurs adapted and thrived for millions of years, and why they went extinct.”

Featuring such species as the tyrannosaurus, brachiosaurus and suchomimus, the exhibit will be included with regular daytime admission to the zoo. Visitors will be able to explore the outdoor exhibit daily through August.

A return exhibit to Tampa’s zoo, Dinos Alive also features special activities areas that visitors can explore with a “Dino Passport full of fun facts.” A fossil fun dig site is also planned, along with a new show, “Dinos Among Us.”

While Dinos Alive is a fan favorite, thus it’s return, visitors can expect a few new things this year. In addition to the show, the zoo announced the recently refurbished Dino Grille will be serving up “dino-sized food and drinks.”

Also new this year is a chance to gain an introduction to one of the zoo’s more prehistoric-looking residents. Guests who choose to pay an additional fee will be given the opportunity to “come nose-to-horn with an Indian rhinoceros,” the zoo said. The rhino encounter will be offered twice daily throughout the Dinos Alive run.

“At Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo, inner scientists will be awakened as they learn about dinosaurs through the eyes of a paleontologist and connect with present-day species of wildlife on the brink of extinction,” said Joe Couceiro, President and CEO. “With more than a dozen species of lifelike dinosaurs and so much to explore – it will take more than one day for families to fully experience Dinos Alive!”
