Dozens Of DUI, BUI Arrests Made Over Weekend: Hillsborough Sheriff

Over Memorial Day weekend, deputies made dozens of DUI, BUI arrests, issued hundreds of citations and warnings, Hillsborough sheriff said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — Dozens of people were arrested for driving and boating under the influence and hundreds were issued warnings and citations during Memorial Day Weekend patrols, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office news release.

During patrols on Saturday and Sunday, 367 traffic stops resulted in 34 citations and 333 warnings issued to motorists, as well as 38 people arrested for driving under the influence.

The HCSO Marine Unit also made 17 vessel stops, resulting in 26 written warnings and 10 citations, as well as two boating under the influence arrests, the agency said.

Deputies continued their patrols through Monday, though those numbers haven’t been released yet.

"Our deputies have made substantial DUI and BUI arrests over Memorial Day weekend, demonstrating our commitment to keeping Hillsborough County safe," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "It's never okay to drink and drive, and if you do, be assured that we will catch you, and you will face the consequences. We are here to protect our citizens and ensure everyone can enjoy the holiday responsibly and safely."
