DUI Arrest Announced After Fatal Gandy Boulevard Crash

A pedestrian died after a Friday morning crash on Gandy Boulevard. A Tampa man now faces DUI charges.

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Police Department has announced the arrest of a 49-year-old man following a Friday morning crash on Gandy Boulevard that resulted in a pedestrian’s death.

According to the agency, the pedestrian was trying to cross Gandy Boulevard around 1 a.m. Feb. 3 in the area just west of Dale Mabry Highway. Police say as the man was crossing, he was struck by a Toyota pickup truck driven by David Gene Franklin of Tampa.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, but died from his injuries, an email from the police department said. The pedestrian did not have identification on him. Police say he is a white man estimated to be around 50 years old.

Franklin was brought into custody on a misdemeanor DUI charge shortly after the crash. He remained in the Hillsborough County Jail Friday afternoon, according to jail records.
