Dump Truck Driver Killed In Accident At Tampa Sweeper Facility

A 52-year-old man is dead following a Wednesday morning accident at a City of Tampa sweeper facility.

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that occurred at the City of Tampa’s sweeper facility on Maritime Boulevard early Wednesday morning.

According to the agency, Pablo Femenias, 52, and Gregory Robinson, 46, were both working at the City of Tampa’s Sweeper Facility, 2708 Maritime Blvd., around 6:30 a.m. Dec. 28. Police say Femenias has his dump truck parked underneath a covered sweeper station as it was being filled with dirt and debris by Robinson’s front end loader.

When the dump truck was full, police say Femenias pulled the truck out of the covered area and parked it about 40 feet front its initial position. The truck was directly behind where Robinson was working on the front end loader.

Once the dump truck was parked, Femenias got out and was working near the driver’s side rear of the dump truck. Robinson, however, did not know Femenias was there and struck him with the loader, an email from the police department said.

Femenias was pinned between his dump truck and the loader, police said.

“Mr. Robinson attempted CPR, but was unsuccessful,” the agency said. “Mr. Femenias was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Robinson, police said, was taken to a local hospital for observation following the accident.

No further information is being released at this time.
