Escaped Teen Inmate To Face New Charges: Tampa Police

A teen charged with murder, who escaped from a juvenile detention facility on Sunday, will face new charges, Tampa police said.

TAMPA, FL — A teenager who was arrested in Tampa after escaping from a juvenile detention center on Sunday will face new charges, authorities said.

Jahmir Moore, 15, was initially arrested Dec. 4 and charged with murder as an adult in the April 17 fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy, Jevario Buie, in the 1300 block of West Busch Boulevard.

Tampa police didn’t specify what the new charges will be in a news release.

Moore escaped from the Hillsborough Regional Juvenile Detention Center on Sunday around 10:30 a.m. while outside in the fenced recreational area, Tampa police said.

He was found and taken into custody that night around 10:15 p.m. in the 100 block of West Keyes Avenue with help from the US Marshals Task Force.

Moore is now back in the custody of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, though he has been taken to another facility outside of Hillsborough County.

The state’s Department of Juvenile Justice will conduct a separate internal investigation about his escape.
