A Hillsborough County school security officer in uniform was charged with driving under the influence in Tampa, the sheriff's office said.

TAMPA, FL — A school security officer for Hillsborough County Public Schools was charged with driving under the influence, authorities said.
David Cruzado, 57, was wearing his school security uniform and had his gun belt and gun in his vehicle at the time of his arrest, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
He was pulled over Saturday morning around 3:30 a.m. after swerving from a lane on Sunforest Drive and Eisenhower Boulevard in Tampa. The deputy found Cruzado “displaying signs of impairment,” the agency said.

Cruzado showed signs of impairment during a field sobriety test and also blew a .168 and a .175 during two breath tests, according to HCSO.
“This incident involving a school security officer is deeply disappointing,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a news release. “His decision to drive under the influence endangered our community and is unacceptable — especially for someone entrusted with the safety of our schools. He will be held accountable for his actions.”
