Free Resources, Food, Entertainment On Tap At Annual Family Health Day

Samaritan's Feet will provide 400 new sneakers free of charge to attendees during Family Health Day.

TAMPA, FL — The University Area Community Development Corp. and The Junior League of Tampa will host a free Family Health Day Saturday, March 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University Area Community Center, 14013 N 22nd St., Tampa.

Family Health Day promotes healthy living by providing access to necessary health information and resources in an entertaining one-day event. The Junior League of Tampa has partnered with local nonprofits, programs and businesses that will provide a range of resources for every member of the family.

Highlights include The Junior League of Tampa’s Mobile Giving Book Library (MILO) and Diaper Bank, live music from the Whale Feral band, giveaways and free food.

The USF Cheer; CrossFit Stone Dragon, Shawn Patterson Memorial Basketball Camp; Hillsborough County Fire Department and Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office will also provide educational entertainment for kids.

Samaritan’s Feet will provide 400 new sneakers free of charge to attendees. CANDO Inc. and the Hispanic Services Council will promote cultural awareness and development of the Caribbean-American and Hispanic communities. The Humane Society of Tampa Bay will have ready-to-adopt puppies available.

The Junior League of Tampa announced that Florida Blue has signed on as the bronze-level partner for the event. Florida Blue is a health partner working to lower costs, making benefits easy to access and providing a range of health services that include traditional medical care, mental well-being and preventive care.

More than 20 health community partners will attend the Family Health Day including Academic Alliance in Dermatology; AdventHealth; BayCare Kids Wellness and Safety Center; Cano Health; Dedicated Senior Medical Center; Empath Health; EmpowHERment; Epic Health; Family Health Care Foundation; Florida Department of Health; Hispanic Services Council; HOPE Villages of America; Impact Health; Momentum Chiropractic; The Foundation for a Drug Free World: Florida Chapter; Tobacco Free Florida; Preserve Vision Florida; Tampa Bay Thrives; Tampa Bay Street Medicine; Tobacco Free Florida; Well-Being Community Centers; and WellCare.

Medical services will include services from head to toe for every member of the family, including CPR instruction; HIV/STD screenings; various cancer screenings; mental health education; health care accessibility; eye exams; hearing checks; skin checks; parent and caregiver resources; senior care; healthy food choices; and other general health screenings.

Family Health Day will have a kids’ basketball clinic and a kids’ CrossFit class to encourage fitness and heart health.

The Junior League of Tampa will underwrite free food from Meanchi’s Peruvian Inspired Sandwiches and 360 Eats food trucks. Free hot and iced coffee will be provided by CUP (Coffee Uniting People), which provides jobs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in an inclusive workplace. Metropolitan Ministries has donated Boxes of Hope for distribution during the event. One box feeds an entire family for three days.
