Funk Fest Is Coming to South Tampa
The outdoor celebration of classic soul and R&B will take place in May at a neighborhood park in South Tampa.

No, we're not referring to funk master George Clinton but the annual Funk Fest – a celebration of smooth soul and R&B.
The annual outdoor celebration is moving to Curtis Hixon Park from downtown St. Petersburg.

This festival may attract an older generation, but Funk Fest fans are just as passionate about their tunes as teenagers.
This year's fest will be a feast of soul music for the heart and soul. According to the Tampa Bay Times:

"In its new home, Funk Fest will feature Jagged Edge, Doug E. Fresh and Keyshia Cole on May 3 and Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, the SOS Band, Salt-N-Pepa and Anthony Hamilton on May 4. Tickets range from $40 to $90 for a single day and from $65 to $140 for both days."
Funk Fest St. Pete was not a good fit in the eyes of promoter Leo Bennett, who was not getting the attendance he needed to justify the cost of the Vinoy Park rental.
With the help pf Councilman Frank Reddick and the Tampa Downtown Partnership, Funk Fest decided to move to Tampa. Funk Fest has had more success in larger venues that include Jacksonville and Atlanta.
