Health Alert for Davis Beach

Beach water tested high for enterococci bacteria, a potential health risk to the public.

Ben. T Davis Beach and Cypress Point Beach are under a health advisory, after water sampling showed high levels of enterococci bacteria, which is considered a potential health risk to the public.

Ben T. Davis Beach is is at 7650 W Courtney Campbell Causeway. The beach has had a history of high bacteria levels. Cypress Point Beach is 5620 W. Cypress St. and is known for its walking trails and lovely views.

The beach water will be re-sampled on March 18. When the bacteria level is in a safe range, the advisory will be lifted, according to Hillsborough County officials.

at nine sites every two weeks.

According to health officials, the water samples are being analyzed for enteric bacteria (enterococci), which are found in fecal matter and can cause disease, infections and rashes. 

The pollution may come from storm water runoff, pets and wildlife, and human sewage.
