Heat Alerts From Tampa To Miami With 110-Degree Feels Like Temps
Heat index values of up to 112 degrees are expected Friday, the National Weather Service said. The Tampa, Miami regions are included.
GEORGIA — From Tampa to Fort Myers and much of South Florida are under a heat advisory at noon Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
The advisory is set to last until 8 p.m., the weather service said. Heat index values of up to 112 are expected, the weather service said.
Counties included in the advisory are: Pinellas, Polk, Pasco, Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota, Lee, plus the cities of St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Largo, Lakeland, Winter Haven, Crystal River, Homosassa, Hernando Beach, Bayport, Port Richey, Tampa, Westchase, Bradenton,
Anna Maria Island, Venice, Sarasota, Englewood, Port Charlotte, Captiva, Sanibel, Spring Hill, Dade City, Zephyrhills, Brandon, Plant City and Fort Myers.

In South Florida, counties included in the advisory are: Glades, Palm Beach, Collier County, Broward, and Miami-Dade.
Peak heat index values between 105 and 110 are expected Friday afternoon in southeast Florida while peak heat indices between 108 and 113 degrees are anticipated in southwest Florida.

"Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur," weather officials said in the alert.
As of around noon Friday, the temperature in Tampa Bay was 93 degrees with a high in 95. In Miami, the temperature was 91 degrees.
Residents should drink plenty of fluids and remain in air-conditioned rooms, weather officials said. People are urged to stay out of the sun and to check on relatives or neighbors.
The weather service offered the following additional heat safety tips:
- Take extra precautions when outside.
- Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
- Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
- Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
- To reduce risk during outdoor work, schedule frequent rest breaks in
- shaded or air conditioned environments.
- Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
- Heat stroke is an emergency. Call 911.
In addition to heat, storms are anticipated in southern Florida. Portions of the Atlantic coastal waters, southeast and southwest Florida and the Gulf of Mexico are also forecast to have storms.
The weather service said scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms could roll into South Florida sometime Friday.
Daily storms could target the Miami area through Thursday, with the weather service noting heavy downpours and gusty winds may be expected with the strongest storms.
Localized flooding with slow-moving storms could threaten some areas, specifically near the metro.
Tampa Bay and Jacksonville are also expected to have daily storms through next week.

Tonight: Isolated showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 77. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Saturday: Scattered showers and thunderstorms between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Heat index values as high as 106. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
