Hillsborough: Get Your Business Ready For Next Hurricane, Flood

Registration is required by Monday, Sept. 25 for the free one-day Ready Business Workshop for hurricane and inland flooding.

TAMPA, FL – Business owners in Hillsborough County may not need a reminder of how a storm or a flood could cause damage, especially after Hurricane Irma passed through.

However, business owners might need help finding out if they are prepared for the next big catastrophic event that comes to Hillsborough County. The federal government is offering a free Ready Business workshop in Tampa to help business owners prepare for emergencies.

The Ready Business Workshop – Hurricane & Inland Flooding is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at 9527 Delaney Creek Blvd. Lunch will be provided. Advanced registration for the event is required by Monday, Sept. 25.

Aside from physically damaging a facility, storms and floods can also cause utility outages, inventory destruction, supply chain challenges, employee complications, equipment damage, cash flow interruptions, data losses and cyber threats.

To help combat these issues, the Ready Business Workshop will help owners develop a business continuity plan, which includes:

  • Conducting a business impact analysis to identify time-sensitive or critical business functions and process the resources that support them
  • Identifying, documenting and implementing steps to recover critical business functions and process
  • Organizing a business continuity team and compiling a business continuity plan to manage a business disruption
  • Conducting training for the business continuity team with testing and exercising to evaluate recovery strategies and the plan.

The Ready Business Workshop will be presented as a partnership between FEMA, Federal Alliance for Safe Homes, Florida Division of Emergency Management, Hillsborough County, City of Tampa and USAA.
