Hillsborough Teen Charged With Murder In Fatal Shooting Of Boy, 14

Jevario Buie was shot and killed on April 17 at West Busch Boulevard in Tampa, and a 15-year-old will be charged as an adult in his killing.

TAMPA, FL — A 15-year-old boy is facing murder charges in connection with the April 17 fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy in the 1300 block of West Busch Boulevard, Tampa Police said Thursday.

Police said Jahmire Moore was charged on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with the deadly shooting of Jevario Buie. He will be tried as an adult.

“The loss of a child, especially in such a tragic manner, is unfathomable,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said in a news release. “I am incredibly appreciative of our detectives' hard work that led to this arrest, but most importantly, brought closure for Jevario’s mother and his family.”

The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. Police said officers found Buie near the railroad tracks that run between Busch and Rome Avenue, where he died of his injuries.

Police said video surveillance showed Moore, Buie and a third person walking in the area between 2:41 p.m. and 3:27 p.m.

Around 3:30 p.m., Moore and Buie headed north on North Rome Avenue toward a dead end, police said. About six minutes later, Moore is seen walking away from the scene with Buie, police said.

Moore was the last person known to be with Buie before the fatal shooting, police said. He was accused of conversing about details relating to the shooting in a social media message.

Officers and the U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested Moore on Wednesday, police said.

"This has been a difficult journey for Jevario's family. Not only did they lose their precious son, but they also had been living without answers. Now, our prosecutors will be able to hold his killer accountable and seek justice for Jevario,” Florida State Attorney Suzy Lopez said in the release, adding Moore will be charged as an adult.

"When you make adult decisions, you must be prepared to face adult consequences in Hillsborough County. Thank you to the Tampa Police Department for their tireless efforts in investigating this case."
