Hit-And-Run Driver Stole Fire Truck Outside Tampa Hospital: Police
A man stole a fire engine parked at a Tampa hospital and hit an SUV as he drove off, police said.
TAMPA, FL — A man who stole a fire engine parked outside St. Joseph’s Hospital on Tuesday morning faces multiple charges, Tampa police said in a news release.
Warren Scudder, 59, stole the fire truck just before 9:30 a.m. while firefighters were inside the hospital.
After driving off, he crashed into a Lexus SUV near Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and MacDill Avenue, police said.

The man driving the SUV was evaluated by hospital staff for hip pain after the crash.
Officers responded to the crash and quickly found the stolen fire truck, police said.

By 9:38 a.m., officers surrounded and blocked the engine’s path in the 4100 block of Poplar Avenue.
Scudder was taken into custody, and charged with grand theft auto and hit and run. Additional charges may be pending.
