Man, 28, Struck, Killed By Motorcycle

A 28-year-old Tampa man is dead following a Monday afternoon crash on North 56th Street.

TAMPA, FL — A 28-year-old Tampa man died Monday afternoon after Florida Highway Patrol troopers say he walked into the path of an oncoming motorcycle.

According to the agency, Larry Richard Gregory, 46, of Temple Terrace was heading north on 56th Street around 4:30 p.m. Feb. 6. As Gregory’s motorcycle traveled in the inside lane, south of Neal Drive, a man walked into his path, a report from the patrol said.

That man, identified as Kevin Mathenge, was struck by the Kawasaki. Gregory was thrown from his bike after the collision, the report noted.

Mathenge was taken to a local hospital, but died later from his injuries. Gregory, who was wearing a helmet, suffered minor injuries, the report said.

No charges were filed, the patrol’s report said.
