The Tampa Police Department has launched a program it hopes will keep members of the community informed when they report a crime.

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Police Department has launched a program it hopes will keep members of the community informed from the moment they call 911 to report a crime through the investigation.

SPIDR Tech, a Versaterm company, uses a platform to better service crime victims through automatic text messages, allowing Tampa police to provide better customer service.

"Our investment in this technology will keep our community informed and allow us to strengthen our relationship with those in need of police services," said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw. "I am committed to ensuring our department is building trust and confidence in the organization through frequent and consistent communication. The implementation of SPIDR Tech is another tool that allows us to accomplish that."
