1. Scream-A-Geddon is coming back for its seventh year in Dade City starting tonight. The event will occur on select nights in September and daily in October. There will be 6 scary attractions to explore including Bloodwater Bayou and Ravenhill Asylum. Costumes and face paint are prohibited. (Tampa Patch)
2. El Cafetal Bakery and Restaurant in South Tampa is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Owner Jonathan Ovalles and his staff have served Cuban sandwiches, empanadas, and other latin food fare for nearly 6 years. Ovalles is originally from Venezuela and dreamed of owning a restaurant in the United States. He also owns Guac n Cheese Mexican Grill. (WFLA)
3. 37-year-old Tampa police officer Matthew S. Coleman has died from complications of COVID-19 leaving behind his wife and children. Donations to his family can be made to the Tampa Police Benevolent Association and should have "Coleman Family' written in the comment section. (WTSP)
4. Tampa City Councilchair Orlando Gudes has called on Mayor Jane Castor to suspend the Tampa Police Department’s (TPD) crime free multi-housing program that teams up TPD with landlords to target renters with a criminal history. A Tampa Bay Times investigation found that of the 1,100 renters flagged in the program, nearly 90% were Black. Tampa Police Department has shared videos on Twitter defending the program and Mayor Jane Castor has also defended the program. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
5. The NFL Alumni Tampa Bay Chapter, MCR Health, Inc., Ana G. Mendez University, Marcos Rivera of HyperTampa and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Tampa Bay are hosting a COVID-19 vaccination event today to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month at Ana G. Mendez University. Attendees can meet and receive autographs from former NFL players and enter to win a player-signed NFL Alumni football. Guests can also enjoy music by DJ Moyo, giveaways, coffee and snacks. (Osprey Observer)
