1. St. Pete’s Museum of the American Arts & Crafts Movement opens this week on Tuesday, September 7th after nearly 4 years of delays. The museum houses items from Rudy Ciccarello’s private collection of over 2,000 American arts and crafts items. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
2. Polk County commissioners are set to vote Tuesday on whether or not to send a letter to Governor DeSantis that would ask him to make drugs, such as ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, widely available to residents. Polk Commissioner Bill Braswell says he took ivermectin, the prescription for humans, for nine months until he was vaccinated in March. Health officials, including the FDA, have warned that treatments such as ivermectin are not approved for COVID-19 patients. (WFLA)
3. Checkers & Rally's is giving away free large fries to anyone who presents a coupon from FryGiveaway.com today for Labor Day. it also invites everyone to nominate the most hardworking person they know for the chance to win $100 in Checkers & Rally's Rewards for their nominee and themselves. 4. A local bodybuilder, Mark Metzger, is on the road to recovery after experiencing temporary organ failure from COVID-19. Metzger was unvaccinated when hospitalized and regrets not getting the COVID-19 vaccine sooner. He hopes his family's story will inspire others to take action against the virus. (WTSP)
5. City of Tampa has launched a new website that it hopes will bring workers, employers, and resources into one hub. The new hub is called TPA-WRX. Tampa’s unemployment rate in July was 4.7%, but not quite where it was pre-pandemic at 3%. The city plans to do more to help job seekers and businesses connect. (ABC Action News)
