Straz Center offers free Straz Jazz Project master classes and concerts
The public is invited to attend free jazz workshops and performances
As part of its Straz Jazz Project, the Straz Center presents a series of FREE, family-friendly concerts with accompanying master classes. Each event features acclaimed jazz artists sharing their expertise in the afternoon, followed by an evening performance.
Each Straz Jazz Project event includes a 4 to 5 p.m. master class (registration required) and a 7 to 8:30 p.m. concert (RSVP required by visiting www.StrazCenter.org.)
The next one up will be led by Theo Valentin on this Saturday, Nov. 1. During her master class, she will share her approach to being both a touring and intimate concert artist. With roots in R&B, blues and jazz, she will highlight storytelling, audience engagement and the experience of being a woman in jazz. That evening, she will perform a concert that celebrates powerful storytelling through jazz.
·Then, on Saturday, Dec. 6, jazz great Fred Johnson will lead a master class and perform. For the master class, he will explore the evolution of jazz from African traditions to American genres. Johnson, artist in residence at the Straz Center, will culminate the season with a performance joined by Belinda Womack and Theo Valentin.
Earlier in October, Womack held the first master class and performance.
