The Diagnostic Center, located at 4949 4th Street North in St. Petersburg, opened in the fall of 2022, offering urgent care to residents of the St. Petersburg area provided by TGH Urgent Care powered by Fast Track. TGH Cancer Institute surgical oncology services will be announced in the future to complete the triad of urgent care, primary care, and cancer care offered at the Diagnostic Center.

In addition, Tampa General also welcomes a new nurse navigator who will coordinate primary patient care at the Diagnostic Center, while connecting patients with the entire Tampa General Hospital network of specialists and services to help patients more easily access health care from the only academic medical center in the Tampa Bay region.

Mavrakis is a board-certified internist who joins Tampa General Medical Group following a four-year tenure as a primary care physician with St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston, where he also served as a clinical assistant professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. He has been practicing internal medicine for more than 20 years and is fluent in English, Spanish, French, German, and Greek.

“I am thrilled to join Tampa General Hospital as part of the new primary care practice at the Diagnostic Center in St. Petersburg,” said Mavrakis. “I look forward to collaborating with multi-specialty providers in offering comprehensive, personalized, preventative care to the patients throughout the greater St. Petersburg community.”

“The launch of critical primary care services at the Tampa General Diagnostic Center represents phase two in delivering integrated and specialized urgent, primary and cancer care services — in one location — to the St. Petersburg region,” said Dr. Karna Patel, vice president of the Tampa General Medical Group. “Dr. Mavrakis’ commitment to collaborative care, fluency in multiple languages, and his detailed approach to health care will be a tremendous benefit to the patients we serve.”

The St. Petersburg location encompasses nearly 10,000 square feet and features a total of 19 patient exam rooms — split between primary care, urgent care, and cancer care services.

The St. Petersburg Diagnostic Center is home to the 16th TGH Urgent Care powered by Fast Track location in the Tampa Bay area. It is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and provides medical care for patients 3 months of age and older. Common illnesses and injuries are treated, including coughs, colds, fevers, ear infections, eye problems, and stomach issues. A list of additional conditions that are treated and procedures offered may be found at www.fasttrackurgentcare.com.

Other urgent care services include:

  • On-site diagnostic procedures — X-rays, EKGs, blood draws, urinalyses, and drug screens.
  • Employer solutions — pre-employment screenings, employment physicals and clearances, and assessments for workers’ compensation injuries.
  • Prescriptions — certain prescriptions can be filled on-site.
  • Seamless care – as part of Tampa General, TGH Urgent Care powered by Fast Track is connected to the hospital’s electronic medical records system. This accessibility improves care as Tampa General providers can access a patient’s medical history when determining a treatment plan.

TGH Urgent Care powered by Fast Track is the first system of urgent care centers in the Tampa Bay area to achieve accreditation through the Urgent Care Association (UCA). This is the highest level of distinction for urgent care centers and means that the locations have met all the UCA’s established standards and criteria for quality of patient care, safety, and scope of services. Additionally, TGH Urgent Care powered by Fast Track has received a commendation from UCS for its antibiotic stewardship and responsible prescribing practices in the fight against antibiotic resistance

Walk-in appointments are available; however, an “On My Way” check-in is recommended. To use “On My Way” from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week, visit Fast Pass | TGH Urgent Care (fasttrackurgentcare.com) or call 813-925-1903. All patients will be evaluated by a health care provider to determine appropriate care and testing. Emergencies are prioritized and wait times may vary due to the number of patients in the clinic.
