Tampa Girl, 6, Hit By Car, Died While Walking To School With Family: Sheriff
A 6-year-old girl was killed, her brother and mother injured after they were hit by a vehicle while walking to school in Tampa, HCSO said.
TAMPA, FL — A 6-year-old girl died after being hit by a car while walking to school with her mother and brother in Tampa on Tuesday morning, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The crash happened at the intersection of Mohr Road and Sheldon Road around 7:40 a.m.
Deputies who responded found all three had been injured in the crash. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene while her mother and 10-year-old brother were brought to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver, Isain Ledesma, 77, was heading east on Moh Road and made a right turn onto Sheldon Road when he hit the family.
He had a green light at the time of the crash and “the family was properly utilizing a pedestrian crosswalk,” HCSO said.

Ledesma was given a citation for a violation of the right of way with death. He was also brought to an area hospital.
"An ordinary walk to school turned into an unimaginable tragedy for a family who should have simply been starting their day together," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "This is a heartbreaking reminder that every second behind the wheel carries responsibility, especially when children are walking to school. Slow down and stay alert, so no other family endures this kind of pain."
