Tampa Man, Dog Killed While Helping Girlfriend After Crash: FHP

The man stepped into the path of an SUV while chasing his dog, which ran out of his vehicle, Florida Highway Patrol said.

TAMPA, FL — A Tampa man and his dog, a doberman, were hit and killed by an SUV near U.S. 92 and Interstate 75 Saturday night, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

After his girlfriend was involved in a crash in that area around 9 p.m., he asked her to come help her at the scene.

When he got to the crash site, he got out of his vehicle and his dog followed, running into the road. While trying to get the dog back in his vehicle, he stepped into the path of the SUV, which hit both him and the animal, FHP said.

The dog died at the scene, while the man was brought to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The SUV’s driver, a 31-year-old Plant City woman, was uninjured in the crash.
