Tampa Mayor Re-Elected; 2 Incumbent Council Members Ousted
Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer said the unofficial results of the Tampa municipal elections are in.

TAMPA, FL — With all 123 precincts reporting results of the Tampa municipal elections, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor announced that she will serve a second term.
"Other than raising my two boys, serving as your mayor has been the greatest honor of my life," Castor said. "Thank you, Tampa, for four more years. Together we'll continue lifting up every neighborhood and improving the quality of life of every resident."
As expected, incumbent Mayor Janet Castor handily defeated her sole rival, write-in candidate Belinda Noah.

Castor earned 80.17 percent of the votes to Noah's 19.83 percent.

Commission chairman Joseph Citro has been ousted from the District 1 at-large seat and incumbent Orlando Gudes could lose his District 5 council seat by less than 2 percent, according to the unofficial results, automatically resulting in a recount.

In one of the more hotly contested contests for council, incumbent Bill Carlson was victorious over millionaire developer Blake Casper with all 27 precincts reporting.

Amendments To City Charter With 120 of 123 Precincts Reporting
- An amendment to section 9.01 of the city charter to allow the city council to create standing boards by ordinance without the mayor's approval.

- An amendment to section 6.03 of the city charter requiring council approval of the mayor's nominations for department heads and other city employees and limiting interim appointments of existing city employees by the mayor to 180 days.

- The third amendment is intended to bring fresh faces and voices to the city council by amending section 2.02 of the city charter, revising term limits for city council members to no more than four consecutive terms.
