Tampa Recruiting Teens For Mayor’s Youth Corps

The Youth Corps Class of 2018 will learn how City Hall works, conduct community service projects among other activities.

TAMPA, FL – The City of Tampa is looking for teens who are interested in learning how the city works behinds the scenes while learning skills that can help them gain employment down the road.

The city is currently accepting applications for the Mayor’s Youth Corps Class of 2018. The Corps is comprised of up to 40 students in Grades 9, 10 or 11 who attend public or private high school within the Tampa city limits. These schools include:

  • Academy of the Holy Names
  • Ambassador Christian Academy
  • Bayshore Christian School
  • Bible Truth Ministries Academy
  • Blake High School
  • Chamberlain High School
  • Christ the King Catholic School
  • Freedom High School
  • Hillsborough High School
  • Jefferson High School
  • Jesuit High School
  • Middleton High School
  • Plant High School
  • Robinson High School
  • Tampa Bay Christian Academy
  • Tampa Catholic High School
  • Tampa Preparatory School

Application forms are available in school guidance offices and will be accepted until Friday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. Members of the Youth Leadership Council review the applications, conduct interviews and make recommendations regarding acceptance into the program.

Youth Corps members learn about and participate in city government, meet with Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, conduct community service projects and produce a youth oriented television show. Participants also learn leadership and employability skills while serving in the Youth Corps.

According to City of Tampa representatives, the Mayor’s Youth Corps provides a forum for Tampa teenagers to engage with city leaders, participate in their community, connect with their peers and learn about civics and city government.
