1. Food truck owners in Tarpon Springs are vowing to fight after the city passed an ordinance that banned trucks from downtown unless they were owned by a brick-and-mortar restaurant and then changed the terms after finding themselves in litigation with food trucks. The new rules say the food trucks must use a new name to operate and a court battle is currently in progress. (Tarpon Springs Patch)
2. Deaths from COVID-19 in Florida surged to 2,448 deaths recorded in the latest state report. Vaccinations numbers across Florida show a decline in vaccinations week-over-week. An additional 100,249 were infected with the COVID-19 virus this past week, a decline from the previous week of 129,202. (WFLA)
3. Activists will rally at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, September 13th, at the Hillsborough County Courthouse to demand that Hillsborough County State Attorney (SAO) Andrew Warren drop charges against a Black Lives Matter protester named Jamie Bullock from last summer. The SAO is planning to motion to block any mention of the constitutionality of protests, the right to free speech, and police conduct during the trial. Bullock faces five years in prison for a felony and two misdemeanors. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
4. The University of South Florida’s Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation (USF CAMLS) has a new partnership with a Tampa-based Immertec for virtual learning. It could help students experience class in a whole new way. (Bay News 9)
5. Former Marine Zack Zindler has launched a hemp business called Native Ceuticals Tampa that offers customized products including CBD, CBG and CBN. He hopes his products will help former and active-duty military members who are suffering from psychological and physiological stress. (St. Pete Catalyst)
