TAMPA, FL — A 14-year-old Hillsborough High School student was struck by a minivan early Monday morning while trying to cross Himes Avenue. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Amanda Suarez was crossing Himes Avenue just before 6:42 a.m. Feb. 13 when she was struck by an oncoming Toyota Sierra driven by Luis Justo Velazquez, 21. Suarez ran into the van's path, according to an email from the agency. Suarez was taken to a local hospital with injuries that have been described as not life-threatening. No charges have been announced. Further information is not being announced at this time.
