1. The Bryan Glazer Family Jewish Community Center is celebrating its 5th birthday from now until December 8th. Upcoming events include a Jewish Heritage Night with the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena, Tampa Multicultural Café, South of Kennedy concert, and more. (Tampa Patch)
2. A person in California became the first in the United States to have an identified case of the COVID-19 omicron variant, the White House announced Wednesday. Dr. Fauci said the person was vaccinated but had not received a booster shot and was experiencing “mild symptoms." There has been no news about the variant being present in Florida. (WFLA)
3. The USF Brewing Arts program has teamed up with beer giant Yuengling to enhance beer industry diversity. Applications are now open for a $5,000 Diversity in Brewing Scholarship. The award will be given to an individual from a traditionally underrepresented community and cover the cost of tuition for USF St. Pete’s Brewing Arts Certificate program for the upcoming spring semester. 4. An effort by Florida Republicans to make Florida's school board races partisan contests advanced in the state Senate this week. Democrats are concerned about the partisan push after school board members suffered from angry attacks at school board meetings this year. (Florida Politics)
5. The 2021 Florida Legislature designated State Road 60 from Philip Lee Blvd. to I-75 as Sergeant Brian LaVigne Rd. in honor of the fallen sergeant who was killed in the line of duty on January 11th. Lavigne had one more day of work before retiring after 30 years when a fleeing suspect crashed into the driver's side of his cruiser and killed him. (Osprey Observer)
