Trump's arrival in Tampa came after a tumultuous first few weeks in office. The president has issued a number of highly unpopular executive orders while sparking protests across the country. A temporary ban on immigration from seven predominately Muslim countries is also facing challenges in court.
On Monday, a group of prominent Democrats signed a joint declaration calling on the courts to keep a temporary restraining order in place that essentially blocks Trump's ban from being carried out. Signers of the declaration included former Secretaries of State John Kerry and Madeline Albright.

The declaration, filed simultaneously with the response from the states of Washington and Minnesota to the government's emergency motion for stay against the temporary restraining order, was made Monday to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco. The Department of Justice appealed a Seattle judge's order that for now lets nationals from the seven affected countries enter the U.S. to the court over the weekend.
Protesters also took to Tampa's streets early Monday morning to express their displeasure with Trump's stand on several issues. Dubbed the "Trump not welcome rally," the gathering drew those opposed to the ban, and a proposal to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico, among other criticisms.
