A Back-to-School Fair will take place Saturday, Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Glazer Children's Museum, 110 W Gasparilla Plaza, Tampa. For $5, children can prepare to go back to school with tips on health, wellness and safety, games, arts and crafts, face painting, balloon artists, informative speakers, karaoke and workshops. The first 150 kids get a free goody bag filled with school supplies.

Fighting Blindness
Join April Lufriu, reigning Mrs. World 2012-13 Aug. 10 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Lions Eye Institute, 1410 N. 21st St., in Ybor City for a casino-themed night. The evening will include food and drink from Castillo's, Montauro's and Green Iguana restaurants, silent and live auctions and live entertainment by the Mark Barrios Band. Brews & Bites
The Brews & Bites Food Truck Rally will take place Friday, Aug. 9 from 6 to 10 p.m. at The Sail Pavilion, 333 S. Franklin St., on Tampa's River Walk, adjacent to the Tampa Convention Center. The monthly after-work party includes food trucks, live bands, raffles and craft beers.
A Skate Bash will take place Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Skatepark of Tampa, 4215 E. Columbus Dr., Tampa. There will be contests with divisions from 8 and under to 16 and up, with free barbecue for contestants. Open practice is at 8 a.m.; 8 and under starts at 10:30 a.m. Registration is $25 in advance or $30 the day of te bash. Register online at skateparkoftampa.com/events.
The Disney tale, The Little Mermaid Jr., will be staged Friday, Aug. 9 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m. at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts, 1010 North W.C. MacInnes Place, Tampa. Get tickets online or call 813-229-7827.
Local rock groups Scream Machine and Pitbull Toddler are joining forces with Cox Media to present a First Responders Tribute. The benefit concert will take place Friday, Aug. 9 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, 5223 N. Orient Rd., Tampa. The donation to attend is $10 and proceeds from the concert will go to first responder charities including the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office's Lynn Sowers Memorial Foundation and the Hillsborough Firefighters Benevolent Relief Fund.
The Florida Aquarium, 701 Channelside Dr., Tampa, will celebrate Shark Week through Sunday, Aug. 11 with a shark-themed scavenger hunt, interactive games, dive shows, photo ops, and you may even get to touch a shark at the aquarium's new Stingray Beach. Seven species of sharks are on display at the aquarium.
The Tampa Museum of Art, 120 W. Gasparilla Plaza, Tampa, offers Art on the House each Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Art on the House provides access to the museum galleries free of charge.
The Dubliner Irish Pub, 2307 W. Azeele St., Tampa, hosts Art After Dark each Sunday from 6 to 10 p.m. The event features craft beer, an art show, art demonstrations and live music.
Tate's Pizzeria & Sports Bar, 927 S. Howard Ave., Tampa, hosts an outdoor movie night each Thursday and Friday night on its 12-foot movie screen.
Saturday Storytime
Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 213 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, hosts a weekly story hour for kids Saturdays at 11 a.m.
The Tampa Downtown Sunday Market is held each Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the 600 and 700 blocks of Franklin Street. More than 50 vendors sell produce, art, specialty food and crafts.
A Bling Business Show will take place Friday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at ColDesi Inc., 5409 S. Westshore Blvd., Tampa. The free event will include product demonstrations for custom T-shirt and apparel entrepreneurs and demonstrations of T-shirt printers and embroidery machines. Developing AthletesThe sixth annual Ryan Nece Foundation's Mind & Body Clinic, presented by Bright House Sports Network, will take place Saturday, Aug. 10 at 7:30 a.m. at Tampa Preparatory School, 727 W. Cass St., Tampa.
The clinic for those age 12 to 18 will include two hours of on-field instruction focusing on strength and conditioning. Along with the field instruction, those attending the clinic will hear from various speakers on subjects such as nutrition, emotional intelligence, balancing academics and athletics, teamwork and discipline.
