With a beautiful view of the water and towering mansions on the other side there's a lot to look at as you drive down Bayshore Boulevard in South Tampa.
But as you drive on Bayshore just past Willow Avenue you'll come to a small monument near Orleans Street. The monument stands just over a foot tall, The base of it is red brick and the top of monument itself is a simple plaque.
The plaque is a tribute to Old Hyde Park and references the year 1879.
"The first house in the neighborhood was built by James Watrous in 1882 at 1307 Morrison Ave.," according to Wikipedia.
The monument is surrounded by a circular barrier that is planted with various flowers.
The monument was noted in recent media reports when a woman from Valrico struck her head on the monument and died after being thrown from her motorcycle when she hit a curb near Bayshore Boulevard and Orleans Avenue.
