16-Year-Old Male Arrested For Attempted Murder

St. Petersburg Police have arrested a 16-year-old for attempted murder in the first degree for shooting an adult male in the street on Aug. 30.

Cortiz Flowers, 16, was arrested Saturday after officers pulled over his vehicle near Harbordale Road South for having expired temporary tags. During the traffic stop, police discovered that there was a attempted homicide warrant out for Flowers' arrest. They also found the young teen to be in possession of cocaine and dilaudid.

According to police, Flowers had a verbal and physical fight with a man named Erik Corbett on Aug. 29. During the fight, Flowers reportedly took out a gun and threatened Corbett and two other people, stating that he was going to kill Corbett.

The next day, police said Corbett was walking in the street near the 3600 block of 16th Avenue South when Flowers shot him in the abdomen.

Corbett was hospitalized with critical injuries but is expected to recover, police said.

Flowers is charged with one count of attempted murder in the first degree, and three counts of aggravated assault, in addition to the drug possession charges stemming from the traffic stop.
