Missed Runway Leads To St. Pete Water Landing
The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued two people after a plane had to make a water landing in St. Petersburg.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Two people were rescued from water near St. Petersburg’s Albert Whitted Airport after a Friday morning crash landing.
According to St. Petersburg Fire Rescue, first responders were called to the 107 Eighth Ave. S.E. airport around 10:42 a.m. Authorities say the pilot crashed into the water while making an attempt to land at the airport.

“It appears that the pilot overshot the runway and skidded off into the water,” an email from fire rescue said.
The U.S. Coast Guard was the first to arrive on the scene and was able to rescue both the pilot and passenger from the aircraft, fire rescue said. Both people on board the plane were taken to a local hospital to be examined.
