5 Things to Know in St. Pete: June 21

1. It is a busy day for City Council, Thursday. At 1 p.m. the council is having a workshop to discuss options for the new police headquarters. Later Thursday, the Council will vote/discuss the downtown waterfront master plan, digital billboards, a fire readiness fee and a contract extension with the Honda Grand Prix.  

2. Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections Deborah Clark announces that ballot mailings for the August 14 Primary Election are tentatively scheduled as follows. Week of June 25 – Mail ballots to approximately 2,100 absent military and overseas voters who have requested ballots to date. State law requires ballots for absent military and overseas voters to be mailed at least 45 days prior to an election. July 10 – Begin mailing approximately 225,000 ballots to domestic voters who have requested ballots to date. State law requires domestic ballots to be mailed beginning between 35 and 28 days prior to an election.

3. Law enforcement agencies around the state and country are participating in “Operation Dry Water” this weekend. This nationwide public-education effort is designed to prevent alcohol-related accidents and fatalities. FWC officers, along with local law enforcement and the U.S. Coast Guard, will crack down on boating under the influence (BUI) violations. “While our officers always look for BUIs,” Capt. Tom Shipp said, “this weekend, they are making a special effort to stop this dangerous activity.”

4. The Pinellas County Health Department's Northeast High School Clinic is offering physicals for free to any Pinellas student from kindergarten to 12th grade. School and sport physicals are by appointment only; no walk-ins accepted. The Northeast High School Clinic is at 5500 16th St. N. Call 570-3025 to make an appointment. Physicals are scheduled from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday - Thursday only.
