9/11 Memorials Honor Victims, 20th Anniversary In St. Petersburg
Events throughout St. Pete will honor the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks and mark the 20th anniversary of the tragedy.
ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. More than 3,000 people died on 9/11 and memorial services organized throughout St. Petersburg and nearby areas to honor the victims of these terrorist attacks.
Rise St. Pete Unveiling
- To honor the victims of 9/11, a memorial, Rise St. Pete, will be unveiled on the 22nd Street Corridor in the Warehouse Arts District Saturday. The piece is the last one removed from the World Trade Center. It is a nine-foot-tall and 4,000-pound steel beam. Its unveiling is scheduled for 6 p.m., and is open to the public.

- Join members of the Tarpon Springs Student Government Association as they plant flags in the Clearwater campus' quad in honor of the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America. It is scheduled 5 - 6 p.m., 2465 Drew St, Clearwater
University of South Florida Sarasota — Manatee Campus
- 20th Year Remembrance of Sept. 11, 2001; The campus will display 2,977 flags on campus to honor each of the lives lost and hear from former New York firefighter Garrett Lindgren who now resides in Bradenton. Event is scheduled Friday, Sept. 10, at 8:15 a.m., with raising of the flag to kick things off. The Remembrance Program begins at 8:30 a.m. in the courtyard, 8350 North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. The event is open to the public.

- The 12th Annual "Honoring Our Heroes" event will honor all law enforcement, fire and rescue, EMS and military on the 20th anniversary of 9/11. A special tribute to honor the 13 military members killed in Afghanistan will also take place. It is sponsored by the Winter Haven Police Department and Winter Haven Fire Department. It is scheduled Saturday, Sept. 11 at South Central Park in downtown Winter Haven.
Cuban Club Ybor City
- A panel discussion about the effects of 9/11 on Tampa Bay is scheduled Friday, Sept. 10, at the Cuban Club, 2010 N Avenida Republica de Cuba, at 11:15 a.m. Retired Col. DJ Reyes who served Afghanistan tours, former Tampa Mayor Dick Greco and Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano and Michael McPherson will make up the panel.
