Body Found In Submerged Truck Identified: St. Pete Police

A man was found dead after his pick-up truck drove through a guard rail at the end of 62nd Ave. NE and into the water, St. Pete police said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — The body found in a pickup truck submerged in water off 62nd Avenue Northeast on Saturday morning has been identified, St. Petersburg Police Department said.

David Hawkins, Jr., 35, was the driver of a 2012 white Ford F-250 truck that was found in the water.

Someone initially called police, reporting an upside-down vehicle in the water off Bayou Grande Boulevard around 7:15 a.m.

St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded and found the truck’s driver, later identified as Hawkins, in the water. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Investigators say that the truck went through the guard rail at the road’s end and into the grassy area before continuing east and hitting trees, then going into the water.
