BOSTON — Monday night's game 4 of the 2021 American League Division Series didn't end in complete losing disappointment, 5 — 6, for the Tampa Bay Rays when you look at the notable defense they had and a regular season of 100 record wins.

First inning, Randy Arozarena quickly made an impressive catch off Boston Red Sox Kike Hernandez's hit. Kevin Kiermaier made a catch during the second inning that resulted with a center field slide in play after Sox designated hitter, J.D. Martinez, smacked a line drive off Rays' pitcher, Collin McHugh. Major League Baseball commentators said Kiermaier stole the show with that play. Disappointment time for the Rays came in the third inning when relief pitcher, Shane McClanahan, had very tense moments on the mound.

Sox Rafael Devers hit a three-run homer off McClanahan, bottom of third inning leading the game 3 — 0. Later in the third, Alex Verdugo hit a wall ball double that brought score to four. After Martinez had a left field base hit making the score five, Manager Kevin Cash walked to the mound and took the ball from McClanahan

McClanahan showed extreme disappointment in himself as he is shown going from club house into locker room throwing his baseball glove and slamming a chair against the wall.

Top of fifth, Rays Jordan Luplow scored the teams first run when Austin Meadows hit to first. Wander Franco hit a two — run homer in the sixth making it 3 — 5. According to Major League Baseball, 20-year-old Franco is the fifth player in history to homer in back — to — back postseason games at age 20 or younger.

Arozarena punched a fastball into right center bringing Kiermaier home tying the game 5 — 5 in the eighth. Bottom of ninth, Hernandez pops the ball to Kiermaier, who couldn't get the ball home in time to stop Danny Santana with winning score for Sox. The Sox advance to the American League Championship Series, and Rays head home.
