Several Planes Evacuated After Bomb Threat Found At FL Airport

The threat was discovered Friday afternoon at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, authorities said.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — Authorities with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office are investigating a bomb threat that occurred Friday on an Allegiant flight at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport.

According to authorities, deputies were called shortly after 4:50 p.m. after a written bomb threat was found in the bathroom of an Allegiant flight bound for Cincinnati.

During a news conference Friday, Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said the threat was "very explicit" and was targeted toward all Allegiant flights at the airport.

The plane was located on the tarmac when the threat was discovered, authorities said. All passengers and crew members on the flight were safely evacuated from the plane where the threat was found. Authorities also evacuated other Allegiant flights at the airport.

Using bomb dogs, Pinellas County authorities and other agencies cleared all planes and located no bomb.

During the investigation, planes were grounded for several hours. The airport has since resumed normal operations.

No suspect has been identified at this time, authorities said.
