Artpool Recycles Material for Fashion Spectacle
From bottle caps to old ties, the Artpool Gallery's earth friendly fashion show proves that treasure can spur from trash.
At Saturday night’s fifth annual Trashion Fashion show, local designers used their skills to produce trendy outfits, fit for the Artpool stage.
The fashion show was like any other with a runway, photographers and music to boot. However, an added twist was that the outfits were made out of recycled materials.
More than 20 local artists participated by designing recycled outfits for the show. The event also played host to an art gallery where locals were able to get some exposure for a reasonable price.
Marina Williams, owner of the Artpool Gallery, said, “the premise of the event is encouraging designers to use non-conventional materials and to recycle or upcycle.”
Some of the most eye-catching designs in the runway show were a dress made of plastic bottles, a blouse constructed of yogurt and bottle labels and a skirt of shredded paper. Visitors gasped at the voguish ideas brought to life through the fashion show.
Artpool’s next event is to be held on Saturday, Aug. 18 at 8pm. The Photography Exhibition Art Party will showcase works from local photographers, film and digital. Visit Artpool online for more information.
