Best Friends: One Dies, Other Survives in Weekend Crash
Friday's crash on 40th Avenue NE kiiled Alexia Douglas, the passenger. Christina Shiver, who was driving, survived.
A teenager who died Friday night in a car crash in northeast St. Petersburg had been spending the evening as she usually did – with her best friend.
Alexia Douglas, the passenger in the Ford SUV, died in the single vehicle crash. Christina Shiver, the driver, lived.
Both girls were 16 and students at Northeast High School. The girls also were the best of friends, sharing interests and much of their free time together.

Alexia's funeral is scheduled for 4 p.m., Thursday, at Park Street Baptist Church, 3901 Park St. North, St. Petersburg. Friends of Alexia are invited to attend, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
On Friday, April 19, the Ford Escape that Christina drove hit a guardrail on 40th Avenue NE. Alexia died in the accident. Christina had minor injuries. Media reports indicate that the driver was momentarily distracted, leading to the crash.

"Everybody is just distraught about it," Principal Kevin Hendrick told the Tampa Bay Times.
