Dali Museum to Create Mobile Classroom

The museum will create a mobile museum experience, with plans to have it ready for use by the start of the 2013 school year.

The Dalí Museum is now the proud owner of its own permanent classroom on wheels. The museum received a 26-foot production truck from Bright House Sports Network on Wednesday, Nov. 14.

This gift to the museum is also a generous gift to the Tampa Bay community, since the truck will be used by the museum’s education department to provide a permanent in-depth Dalí educational experience to schools and festivals throughout the area.

“Bright House Networks is committed to supporting the communities that our employees live and work in,” said Elliott Wiser, of Bright House Sports Networks, in a news release. “We worked closely with the museum’s education department to find the ideal vehicle for their new mobile classroom, and are excited that we were able to provide this state-of-the-art truck to help enhance their outreach to museum visitors.”

“We know that one of our most important functions as a museum is to help educate the next generation of artists and patrons,” said Hank Hine, Executive Director of The Dalí Museum in a news release. “With this gift from Bright House Networks, we now have the ability to expand beyond the museum’s walls, and serve an even greater audience.”

For the next several months, the museum will create a mobile museum experience, with plans to have it ready for use by the start of the 2013 school year. In 2007, the museum partnered with the Pinellas County Schools Visual Arts department to produce its first mobile classroom – dubbed the “Dalí Art Mobile” –, which operated over a four and a half year period and was seen by more than 45,000 students in Pinellas County alone.
