Fatal Shooting in St. Pete Followed Argument Between Friends: Police

A suspect was in custody Wednesday evening after the victim was found in his home with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL — An elderly man was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon in St. Petersburg, according to a brief statement by police.

The victim has been identified as Randal "Randy" Wright, 58.

At 4:16 p.m. Wednesday, St. Pete officers responded to a call of a person shot at 7046 40th Avenue North. A resident of the home, Wright was found with a single gunshot would to the chest. He was transported to St. Petersburg General Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

According to police, Johnny Alan Moore, 55, shot Wright during some type of argument.

Moore was a friend of Wright's and temporarily living at the home, according to police. After the shooting, Moore reportedly got into his 1981 motorhome and drove away.

Members of the Tampa Police Department spotted Moore driving his motorhome near U.S. Hwy 301 and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Tampa. He was stopped and arrested.

St. Petersburg Police Department detectives were interviewing Moore on Wednesday evening.
