Fans to Be Screened at Trop Games

Higher security is being enforced during the Rays baseball season, as random screenings start.

Heading to the Trop this baseball season to catch a game?

Don't be surprised if you're asked to step out of line for a security screening.

Security officers, armed with metal-detecting wands, are randomly screening fans before they enter Tropicana Field, according to TBO.com. They are posted at all gates and the employee entrance.

The security officers were present at Wednesday's Rays against the New York Yankees.

TBO.com interviewed a fan:

“Safety is everything,” said Ron Shevlin, 59, of Largo. “Being on alert is perfect. You never know who it may be.”
