Great St. Pete Cupcake Contest Returns to the Morean

The Morean Arts Center invites you to compete in a city-wide search for St. Petersburg’s best cupcake. The contest will be hosted , which happens to be National Cupcake Day. From 12-3 p.m., judges will taste observe the many creations.

A $15 entry fee allows each participant to enter one style of cupcake. Bakers must provide a minimum of 12 cupcakes so that the judges can taste each submission.

Last year’s winning cupcake was made by Alita Kane and Jessica Bebee of Sugardarlings Cones & Cupcakes of New Port Richey. Their inventive creation, Peanut Butter S’mores, was a hit with the judges. Katelyn Sovocool of
Seminole took home Honorable Mention with her Pucker Up entry and Lori Schmidt of St. Petersburg took home the People’s Choice Award for her Irish Pubcakes entry.

Cupcakes will be judged on icing/frosting, flavor/texture and presentation/creativity for a total of 50 points, which allows plenty of room for edible creativity. The winner will receive bragging rights around St. Petersburg and the coveted handmade glass cupcake trophy made by our own resident artisans at the Glass Studio & Hot Shop. The Grand Prize winner will be announced at 3 p.m.

The winning cupcake and its creator will enjoy celebrity status on the Morean's website, Facebook page and city-wide media.

Although the cupcake trophy will be the coveted prize of the evening, there is also a People’s Choice award voted on by the attending audience. Participants in the contest are encouraged to bring sufficient quantities for the public to taste.

Admission is free to the public and $1 per vote will be collected to help support the Morean Arts Center’s mission. Registration will be capped this year as a result of the massive response in 2011, so be sure and sign-up early!
