Pinellas County Cold Shelters Open Tonight

Temperatures are expected to dip to 40 tonight with a wind chill causing Pinellas County to feel even colder. Wind chill values will be as low as 35 with a north, northwest wind between 13 and 23 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Given the hazardous conditions, emergency officials have activated cold shelters in Pinellas County. Gulfport's cold shelter at Trinity Church of the Nazarene is the city's only shelter.

Men and women are asked to check in between 6 and 8 p.m. Doors are then locked and guests are allowed to stay overnight until about 6:30 the next morning.

Pinellas County cold shelters will be open Tuesday, Jan. 3. It will be the second day in a row the shelters have been open.
